Finally! Commons sense arrives to the press! When interviewed by 60 Minutes reporter, Mike Wallace, award-winning actor Morgan Freeman stated,
"I don't want a Black History month. Black History is American History. There's no white history month."
He then went to far as to question Mr. Wallace asking, "Which month is white history month?"
Point well made and amen to that! I personally don't care one bit about what color someone's skin is, what religion they follow, or don't follow at all for that matter. I don't care what their sexual preference is, and I don't care how wealthy or poor they are. I care about WHO they are on the inside. This is the obvious sentiment being poured out from the African-American communities around the nation. Standing up and saying, "Hello? We ARE part of American History, thank you very much! Think maybe you folks can be so kind as to re-write your history books properly this time? Or do we have to go through another 3 decades of this again?"
Lest we forget the great impacts that the black communities have brought to our melding pot (hint phrase there) nation. Geroge Washington Carver, for example, who as an agricultural chemist, not only developed peanut butter, but also continued his botanical research, earning many awards and a master's degree back in 1890 (!!), declining an annual salary of $100,000 (which would be approximately 1 million us dollars today) so that he could continue such research in his own laboratories and facilities.
George Washington Carver is also responsible for the findings of over 300 uses for peanuts, and hundreds more for pecans, soy beans and sweet potatoes. Among the listed items that he suggested to southern farmers to help them economically were his recipes and improvements to/for: adhesives, axle grease, bleach, buttermilk, chili sauce, fuel briquettes, ink, instant coffee, linoleum, mayonnaise, meat tenderizer, metal polish, paper, plastic, pavement, shaving cream, shoe polish, synthetic rubber, talcum powder and wood stain.
Who said American History isn't exciting?
