Part of the reason that this planet of multi-species is so very interesting is due to the very vast variety of people and their ethnic backgrounds. Each nation of people is represented by the national leaders to the world. The problem with this, as of late, comes in the form of a false-door. In other words, it looks great, but leads no where. In the case of the United States, this is a very backwards door. It looks like hell, but still leads to no place in particular. In the case of the United States, the government is doing a horrendous job of representing the people which comprise the citizens of this nation.
Ahh the melding pot. Some melding pot. The US government has done a horrendous job of representing its people. The only reason half the officials in this nation get elected (not that we've got much choice in the first place) is because of empty promises and alot of money. We have 4 political parties (that I personally know of, however there are likely more), all of whom have no brains or common sense about them. The promises are made, and then continually broken after election. Examples of this can be seen in the "Homeland Defense" department. Some homeland defense. We can't even rely on our own government to help out own people when a disaster strikes that we have no control over. Now think about that. Mexico, Cuba, the UK, Canada and aide from private sources from around the nation were there to help the victims of the disasters (who have been pummled with not two or three, but rather 13 hurricaines this year) BEFORE we even bothered to get enough help down there to save anyone.
Back to the point in hand, the United States is slow on the draw when it comes to helping their own people, but real darn quick to pull the trigger when it comes to trying to enforce its International Laws and Treaties upon other nations...especially ones who had no interest in the first place. Take for example, Korea. They want to join the power house nations and have a nuclear weapons program. The United States doesn't think this is a good idea. The United Stats also did not think this was a good idea for Russia, India, Pakastan, UK or China... but too bad for us, those countries have nukes anyway.
There we go again, trying to bully the world around so that they're forced to bend to the ways of the United States. I think what bothers me the most here is the fact that everyone outside of the United States' government can see how screwed up this country really is. Including its own citizens. Gay marriage ban is under foot. The abortion issue has never stopped. The Social Security Administration came under fire and had to be overhauled for some reason or another. Then the Medicare program has never been settled, and the HMOs are always under pressure to lower their prices and upgrade their coverage. Then we turn to local scandals, and now the US government itself is going through a modern day version of the entire Nixon Administration, only to the point that this is making President Nixon's problems look fun.
And here's the United States, wondering how they're going to put a stop to the Korean's plans to build nuclear bombs? I think we ought to start focussing more on our actual 'homeland', than spending billions of our tax dollars on trying to tell other nations what to do.
