United WHAT?!?

We the people, in order to form a more perfect union....

1. Decided to send a bunch of white Puritan slave owners, who wanted to be free, across the Atlantic, only to land in the 'new world', which had already been long established by Native Indian tribes, who wound up being called 'savages' because we decided they were on our land, so we wiped out as many as we could and took the land for ourselves.

2. Average a major war once every 20 years (cause really, it's about the only thing we're good at anymore).

3. Can't properly educate our young people, and think that some new wonder drug in a bottle is a far more acceptable alternative to proper parenting (Ritalin...the wonder parent)

4. Have around 2500 more long range nuclear weapons than any other nation on the face of the planet, and yet we freak out when another developing nation wants to have nuclear technology for energy purposes, instead of just asking them to please sign the Mutually Assured Destruction agreement (ya know, you bomb us, we bomb you...etc)

5. Can track a cow all the way from conception to the dinner plate, but somehow can't keep track of the 4.5 million immigrants that cross our borders illegally. (Maybe give them all a cow?)

6. Can't upgrade our medical research facilities to include Stem Cell technology because a group of anti-abortion militia people holding semi-automatic rifles and talking to God on a two-way radio somewhere in the foothills of Virginia tell us that it's 'not ok' (these are the same pro-life people that think it's also acceptable to bomb abortion clinics, killing as many people as possible before they get arrested for both arson and murder).

7. Elected a president who couldn't keep both his pants or his mouth shut, so he lied to the American people claiming he did not have sex with that woman, while his wife decided that his sexual conduct was the product of a 'vast right wing conspiracy'...apparently so was her real estate venture that became known as the Whitewater scandal.

8. We have a president who uses the sexual slang lingo of a 13 year old to describe his foreign policy on wartime tactics saying, "This will not be another Viet Nam. This time, we're going all the way". Meanwhile, everyone else in the nation is wanting to know where 'all the way' is located on the global map. So far, no one has been successful in pin-pointing this particular geographical area.

9. We send the bulk of our product manufacturing over to communist nations, so that our corporate swine aren't forced to actually pay people the wages that they're worth, and then the general population wonders why there are no decent jobs in this nation. Apparently we just demand far too much of our businesses. Like, ya know... a wage that won't keep us living below the poverty line?

10. We lose several major buildings because of a terrorist attack, so we send a bunch of troops over to bomb the hell out of an already war-torn area of the world and our president tells the American people that we're going to 'crusade' against terrorism, and meanwhile we watch the price of gasoline increase almost $3.50 per gallon (it was less than $1.50 per gallon when Bush took office), and we're all wondering why the rest of the world has issues with our nation?

We the people ... WHAT?!?

Look, I'm sorry you feel that way, but not all pro-life people think it's acceptable to bomb abortion clinics. In fact I think few do. I certainly don't know any.
However, we Catholics (I don't know who lives in Virginia, but I assume that's who you meant) can't allow stem cell research using embryonic stem cells, because we truly believe that it's morally wrong to kill unborn children, who've never even had the chance to see the world, simply to save the life of someone who has.

Assumption is a very wrong thing to go by when discussing any aspect of religion, politics or medicine.

You are aware that stem cells can be made without the destruction of embryos, right?

You are also aware that the U.S. Constitution specifically declares a separation of church and state...and that medicine is in no way, shape or form religious based and therefore falls under the 'state' portion of the constitutional program?

So to clarify... no, I did not mean Catholics. If I meant Catholics, I'd have said it straight out with no hints what so ever.

I was not aware of what the U.S. Constitution declares. But now that I am, I think it's a stupid thing to declare.

Whether you meant Catholics or not, even if these people in Virginia give in, we won't - you'll still have to fight us.

I am fully aware that stem cells can be made without the destruction of embryos. I'm all for adult stem cell research. But why would "anti-abortion militia people" be a problem if no one was aborting anything in the first place, hmm?

1. The Constitution declares this because the founding members of our US Government believed in freedom of religion. This nation was not established by Catholics. It was established by Puritans. Although the Catholic faith was always one of the larger Christian faiths practiced in this nation (and still is today), the US Government did not want religious bias to play any role in the creation of laws and legislation that would effect everyone. Therefore, no, it is not 'stupid', it is there in order to help protect all people, from all faith paths.

2. The state of Virginia is not the only one with some form of a religious fanatical militia. Those exist in all states. Virginia was used as an example state. While it's wonderful to see such devout people of the Catholic faith, as well as someone who is quite patriotic about the state they're in, saying something about still having to fight us, does nothing more than make it appear as if this nation was still in the ages of mandatory segregation.

3. So, if I'm understanding this properly, you're saying that a young girl who's been raped, and becomes pregnant because of that horrible situation, should NOT be given the option of aborting that child, even though that pregnancy was likely the result of an even more violent situation, and could possibly be placing the pregnant girl's life in danger as well? So, this means that the people who are so 'pro life' think it's perfectly acceptable to risk the life of a young girl (who also has not had a shot at a normal life yet), is 'ok', so long as she risks it to bring another life into this world?
Sorry, but to me, that sounds horribly barbaric.

Well, I don't actually think I was saying that. Forgive me if I'm missing something, though.

However, yes, I do believe that a young girl who's been raped should not have the option to abort her child, if by some crazy chance the rape actually results in a pregnancy. You'd kill a kid for something evil his father did? The child did nothing wrong, and I bet he doesn't want to die.

I think that, instead of devoting our time and money and energy to killing babies after women have been raped, we should focus rather on preventing rape in the first place. But of course, that wouldn't be good for the abortion industry. (Since when is murder a socially acceptable industry, anyway? I suppose when your manufacturing industry's been transported to China, you have to replace it with something, is that it?).

But all this is really beside the point. I thought your issue was with the lack of stem cell research, not pro-life. And since you've already pointed out that stem cells can be 'made' without the destruction of embryos (i.e. retrieved from adult bone marrow), I really don't see what all the fuss is about.
