Roe vs Wade...again.

Here we go again folks. The old abortion issue. Now 32 years old, and counting. Back in 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of legalized abortions. This was intended to END the abortion issue, and to help make it safer for women to terminate unwanted pregnancies...without risking 'backstreet abortion' problems (the old fashioned way of terminating an unwanted pregnancy was brutal by all accounts, and sometimes involved the use of a wire coat hanger and alot of health/life risks to the mother). Just as it was back in 1973, so it is now...where protestors of all types are out in force marching the steps of the courthouse. Some are pro-abortion, some not. Some feel a bit in-between, but let's think about this in retrospective for just a moment. Then you decide for yourself.

Before 1973, thousands of children were being born that were products of rape, molestation, date rape and incestuous relationships/molestations. Pregnancy among teenagers was on the rise, and sexually transmitted diseases were at an all-time high (until the discovery of AIDS...in the early 1980's which brought on a whole new era of sexual awareness and education).
Women who decided to terminate their pregnancies had to do so by one of several methods. They either heard through the grape vine of a physician who was willing to take care of the termination for a very high price, and in a very secret location, with very few instruments to use....both risking legal back-lash. They did it themselves by intentionally causing a miscarriage, often to the health, safety and life risk of themselves. They could also find a 'backstreet abortion clinic' (which often posed as something totally different) and take the risk on many more health and safety issues....or, they just gave up and prayed for the pregnancy to be done and over with so they could place the child up for adoption (who, at that point was either physically or mentally damaged from earlier attempts at terminating the pregnancy... or both)

After the Supreme Court ruled in favor of legalizing abortion, even more problems ensued. Primarily in the form of angry pro-life protestors...who went around bombing clinics and killing people. Kind of morbidly ironic. Pro-life folks who kill people. Think about that for just a moment and tell me how ridiculous that truly is. People who are against death, killing people. Now there's an oxy-moronic phrase we can all learn from. Today, abortion is legal. This is legal for EVERY female that is capable of reproducing off-spring. Age is irrelevent. If a female is capable of bearing a child (ie: within her menstrating years), then it is legal for her to terminat an unwanted pregnancy. It is that simple. Of course, the red tape involved for terminating unwatned pregnancies for people under the age of 18 years of age is alot more difficult to deal with than one may thinkg, it is still, in and off the bsis of the law, legal for that person to terminate the pregnancy.

Now on a flip-flop view point as well, what if (and of course this is not humanly possible...yet) it was a male who was the one bearing an unwanted pregnancy? Remember, there are just as many male protestors both pro and con on the abortion issue as there are women. Some, not all, but some, have in fact put their minds within the mind of a woman who is carrying an unwated pregnancy. Approximately 95% of those men who have done that, are PRO-abortion. The issue also does not stop with the "exceptions of..." realm. There are many women, who seem perfectly healthy normally, but once pregnant, their lives can be at stake....and the lives of their unborn children are almost always not only at stake, but a near 100% chance of being still-born. The details of pregnancies and all of its many complication factors have to be weighed in when making a choice to legalize, or not, something as obviously heated as the abortion issue is.

For now, it sits once again in the hands of the Supreme Court. And, once again, the protestors (both pro and con) abound. And, just like it was 32 years ago, doctors are sitting around waiting anxiously for the outcome....for they know that not only are their careers at risk if the ruling is to out-law abortion, but that millions of women within the U.S. will once again risk their lives, to terminate unwanted pregnancies....especially those that were created through violent means. So think about this issue before automatically taking a stance on it. There is a tremendous amount to weigh into this issue...and the results will be clearly seen in our future generations, just as it was 32 years ago.

You don't seem to regard the feeling or existance of the baby or what you consider a "fetus" in this fact. Many millions of babies have been torn apart and mutilated in the abortions that have been performed. Also, many women who have undergone abortions now suffer from the post realization that they have killed their offspring. What people don't seem to realize is that it is not up to us when the end of life should occur.

First, thank you 'Anonymous' for your comment.

Second, what I want to point out here is the fact that every person thinks differently from every other person. It's not only part of what makes our world so wonderfully unique and diverse...but also what makes our world so horribly unique, and diverse.

In the United States, abortion is legal. Prior to abortion being legal, doctors always had the option of terminating a pregnancy (at any stage) if the mother's life was in grave danger (for any reason). If, however, the pregnancy was in the last trimester, doctors used to (and still do) often opt for early emergency c-section deliveries, in an attempt to save both the child and the mother.

The point is to help people seriously think about not only the health of the unborn child, but also the health of the mother. Un-planned, or un-wanted, in the cases of health (and sometimes life itself) being jeopardized in any way, is irrelevent.

Making abortion legal gives the medical community ALOT of room to make very difficult choices, based on the necessity of the situation. Even doctors at abortion clinics are not 'cold hearted butchers'. They have to weigh in alot of factors. In some cases, abortion (although wanted by the mother) is not the best route, for that alone would put her life in danger.

Again, as I said in the article. There is ALOT to be considered when looking at the issue of legalized abortion. :)

I agree with anonymous. In this article there is no regard for the baby. If their was equal research on the baby as well as womens health one would also note that the baby, has it's genetic makeup at conception a heart beat at 18 days can move and swim at 6 weeks and can hear at 14 weeks. By the time a woman gets an abortion most of this has taken place.

The article doesn't mention how abortions are done and how many millions of women who have had abortions live to regret it. I also noted in the article the fact that abortions today are not just to wipe away the effects of a horrible and wicked events such as molestation and rape but today many women use it as a CHOICE. That means a CHOICE to have unprotected sex which, if anyone attend sex education class has learned can lead to pregnancy. In a world with all the birth control available to women today abortion is used to wipe away bad decision making and irresponsible behavior. Since we are so educated and able to make choices. we should be CHOOSING to have responsible sex and live with the consequences of that decision! Another idea not so much used today CHOOSE to wait to have sex in marriage where a baby is wanted.(I say wanted because of all the millions of dollars spent each year in the fertility doctors office!!)
Where is the research on the many woman who heard their babies heartbeat and refused abortion?
Where is the research on all the women who have had abortions who live in regret?? What about the late term mothers who felt their baby kick as the life was being sucked out of them? What about the ones who felt their baby kick when the salt injections slowly burned the babies body and got into the lungs and the baby died kicking and crying (yes they cry too).

The article doesn't state the many mothers who were never told that thier baby can feel and that the procedure was going to devistate them after feeling their baby kick to save it's life.

When we talk about CHOICE would the baby choose to be sucked out or burned by salt injection....hmmmm

What about the question "Do two wrongs make a right?" If we have found ourselves with an unplanned pregnancy is abortion going to be the answer?

There are many who regret abortion and feel they were not informed about what they were doing and how it would effect them for ever, don't believe me, just google abortion regrets and read them.

When writting an article on abortion the question needs to be asked "Do two wrongs make a right"? Just because it is leagal does that make it right?

I am a 44yr old who is adopted. My birth mom regrets her situation back then and being pregnant and unmarried was not the popular thing to do. She lives to enjoy 13grandchildren. She would tell you adoption over abortion anyday.

If you have had an abortion God's love can cover this situation just ask him and pray for forgiveness and comefort.

If your thinking of abortion do both sides of the research not just pro choice as this article leans.

Thank you for your comment, although it missed the basic points of the post, I thank you just the same for your response.

I too am adopted, and was adopted at 5 weeks of age, after having been born at 7 1/2 months gestation, because my mother (who was 16 at the time of my birth) had been hit head on in a car collision while she was stopped at a stop light on her way home from work one night. She lived in a home for unwed mothers at a local convent. So preaching to me about adoption is like trying to nail jello onto a tree. You're preaching to the wrong choir.

I am also the mother to 4 children. I also happen to have had 4 miscarriages. I'm more than aware as to the stages of gestation. That's not the point of the article.

The point to the article is the fact that abortion IS legal (and I'm assuming you are from the US, and understand that law), and sometimes necessary in order to save the life of the mother (regardless of her age).

Doctors take an oath, and in this oath a portion states "First, last and always, do no harm". This is not always the easiest route for doctors, and sometimes, choices have to be made that are life and death choices. Abortion recommendation being one of those difficult choices many doctors, especially religious ones, have to make.

So before you go off posting about what your personal belief system is, be aware that what you personally believe, is (unfortunately in this case) completely irrelevant to the posting itself. Also, God is not going to save a woman, nor forgive her, if she's dead because of pregnancy-related problems that are a direct result of violence which caused the pregnancy to begin with.

" If you do not believe in human Life,
What do you believe in ? " When you go into business you take a risk; and, when you allow yourself to become pregnant, you also take a risk -- you enter the valley of death as they use to say. It is said that about 95% use abortion method as birth control; 1% because of rape of incest; 3 % due to mother's health problems. Some people say it abortion is a personal choice, of course disregarding the baby, and will not discuss abortion at all, like it does not affect them.

The majority of abortions are to women under the
age of 25 years. Does that tell you anything ?
We are having a trillion dollar bail out of our economy because some people overextended with their "personal choices" and also were greedy or selfish a few people in the finance world.
Wake up the babies are the future of any country.
You can argue all you want -- but selfishness and
greed and not taking responsibility and accepting consequences of your actions actions
can cause problems greater than personal choice of
one woman. Rationalizing that abortion is legal does not make it right, and especially rationalizing that partial birth abortion is legal is ludicrous and insane, and most inhumane.

Carrie B. said...

Again, the point is not to argue if the baby is disregarded or not. The point is that Abortion IS legal, regardless of what one person's beliefs regarding the issue are, or are not.

If you want the law changed, go change it. This is a democracy. Go to the appropriate law-making bodies and have the law changed. It can be done. In this case, it can't be EASILY done, but it can be done.

Preaching about disregarding a baby is based upon your personal belief systems, and that's obviously perfectly OK. However, preaching about something that you are not making any effort to change is the same as trying to nail Jell-O to a tree...it's not going to work, nor is any change going to come about.
